What I Made Today

Iv been having a bit of an experiment today.

I love notepads and journals, so I decided to make myself one.  This is not a covered pad, it is indeed its own little journal, with cartridge paper, held in with ribbons.  I gave it a hard back to lean on and a pretty ribbon tie.

When I have filled it up I shall make another.  I was rather pleased with the finished item and have decided to make some for my Folksy shop, so if anyone would like one, they will be coming shortly.

Bags at Pants Place

I have been asked for so long to do bags in the style of my purses and finally here they are.....

You can find this one over at my Folksy shop.

Basket Ball Team

My son lives and dies Basketball.  It all started in year 8 when he joined his mates after school at Basketball Club.  They loved it so much and had a fantastic teacher who put himself out after school hours to coach them and run them around to matches.  A firm bond grew between the lads and they went on to win just about every cup going, including District Cup, Kent Cup, England Cup.  They were even invited to play in the England Cup Silver Jubilee in Nottingham.

They also played for the under 16 National Squad of Kent Crusaders (now Medway Park Crusaders) and moved on to the Under 18's.  My son and some of his friends also joined Dover Pirates Mens Local league team.  I am sure if they had enough hours they would play even more.

My son and some of his friends are now in 6th form and were invited into the Basketball Academy, where they are studying BTEC Sports Nationals and my son is hoping to go to university to take a degree in PE and then Teaching.

Even though the lads have gone separate ways now, some college, some 6th form, they meet nearly every day to train together.

They have recently decided to start up their own team, initially local league and then hoping to join the National League.  They have come up against a lot of red tape and closed doors.  At present the are looking for:

1.     Sponsorship - to provide team kit, this will be written with sponsors name.  Initially this would be in the region of £250.

2.     Training Venue - they are approaching different schools and sports centres to try and obtain training                 venue.

3.      A ref.

The lads are working very hard at this and I am very proud of them all.  They also have a meeting with Canterbury City Council, but they have already been told that they probably wont help them as there is a recession on.  What a shame they cant encourage a group of 17/18 year olds that are trying hard to achieve their goals.

If anyone is interested contact me on sam.sgt@btinternet.com and I will pass your details on to the lads so that they can speak to you.

Poem

My 11 year old daughter had just written this poem for her homework.  I thought it was lovely so Im going to share it with you. Shhh dont tell her.

Treasures

It was the life I wished to dream,
Growing up and being apart of this world!
I would sit with a box until the elders come.
I would hide it, as part of my room!
But yet only the treasures of my life;
The collections of my special world.

Feathers and birds eggs,
Sea shells and pebbles, swe
Just a portion of this world I share;
Other people might do the same,
But I do it in my own special way.

I grew up, my taste in collecting things went!
I grew up, but I still had that box.
I would go to the same beach and watch;
Watch the children grow; even my own.
At an older stage of my life at the age of twenty seven,
I had only one child at the age of three,
But that was enough to see the changes.

I had grown, yet that box stayed,
It would, for the whole of my life,
Just one box, to remember my childhood.
Childhood is fun,
The most fun out of my life so far;
So I wish to keep this box,
Just for my memories.

Folksy Friday

Heres my attempt at doing a folksy friday. Usually, I get so far and then manage to lose the photo's and then the links and it all goes wrong and I give up. Today, after waking up at 4.30am on the sofa, realising the football must have been a bit boring and not seeing much point in going back to bed now, I thought I would give it another go.

I picked the theme birds, this week as I have so many lovely birds in the garden at the moment. SO here goes.

April News

Just a little catch-up really as I am so so terrible at keeping up with my blog.

April was a busy month for my household.  After a very quiet start to the year and wondering if we could carry on Hubby won a big contract that will give him work for a few months.  Its been a bit of a struggle lately so it will be lovely to be able to pay the bills.

My son, who is so accident prone, managed to damage his knee during a basketball match.  He lives and dies for his basketball so was very down for weeks.  He is still suffering with it now and training has had to be very light and he has had to sit out on matches.  He has been picked for his team to play and has had to give his place to others, not an easy thing to do when you love it so much.

This was taken quite a few years ago but I love it.

My daughter had a not very good month, she is getting picked on at school, Idon't think I could say it has got to the point I would call it bullying, but we need to sort it out now.  Having been badly bullied for five years at secondary school, I feel I am equipped with some knowledge to help her sort it out.  Some not very nice things were said to her on Facebook and I let it be known that Mummy Pants is watching them.  They have been very nice to her since, and her confidence is growing a bit again.  I hope that she can learn to stop it before it starts getting worse.

Also, the Fox, who has now made his home in the garden, and lives about five feet away from the guinea pig hutch, decided to make a meal of one of them.  The poor guinea pig that is left is so shy poor thing.  We have been out and secured the cage, that he would now have to be a magician to eat the other one.

Again, a very old photo, but it is lovely to look back to when they were not killing each other or fighting over the PS3.

As for me, I have been busy making, trying to do the books for hubby and me for the year (still loads to do), booking into craft fairs.  Now selling on Notonthehighstreet, had some wholesale enquiries, done a on-line magazine interview (comes out in June I think) and numerous other things that take me away from getting other things done.

I have decided to push my personalised items this month.  For my nieces birthday I took a photo of her son (he is 1.5 years) and made it into a brooch for her.  She was so pleased with it.  I have also been asked to make a purse with a lovely photo of Someone's Nan on it.  Of course, being me I forgot to take photo's.

If anyone has a special photo that they would like used on a purse for a special gift or a brooch then let me know at my Folksy shop.

These Napkin Rings can be personalised with your families names on or would be great for your guests tables at a wedding reception.

More wedding reception items coming soon.  Watch this space.....

New Item in my shop

Got so inspired today, had to grab the notepad.  Even had some Christmas ideas!.  Anyway, this is one of my new items.

Tuesday 6 April 2010

Hubby

I had a lovely easter.  Lovely because I actually had time to spend with hubby, He's been self-employed for five years and it has been a big long struggle for us lately as work has been very slow.  He cant afford time off, so the few moments we get together are very precious, so to get him to have four days off over easter was wonderful.

We did very unromantic things, like painting the bathroom, mowing the lawn etc etc, but to us it was really special.  The kids enjoyed having dad around too.

It is our wedding anniversary this month and we always get something between us, one year it was a picture, last year a bird table, but always stuff we can see and use daily.

Anyway, I wanted to say well done to my hubby for surviving 5 years of self-employment and for working really really hard, even though you sometimes feel like giving up.
